Oakwood and COVID-19

We are still accepting Adoption Applications as we need to find homes for the dogs currently at the centre. In response to the COVID-19 illness we are being very cautious during this process to keep our staff, volunteers and dogs safe.

Please do not apply if either yourself or members of your household are unwell for any reason (not just with Coronavirus symptoms), or if you have been in contact with someone else in the last 7 days who is suspected of having Coronavirus. By unwell, we mean any form of sickness or illness, not just a fever/cough or other COVID-19 specific symptoms.  Any illness that is passed on to our staff or volunteers will compromise our ability to look after our dogs in the short term and risks permanent closure of the centre.

If you have applied for a dog or have been booked into a viewing space at the centre and you or a member of your family become ill, or if you have been in contact with someone else who is suspected of having Coronavirus then you must notify us immediately via telephone/email/facebook. Do not visit the centre!

If you reserve a dog and are going through the home-trial process but you or a member of your family become ill, or if you have been in contact with someone else who is suspected of having Coronavirus then you must contact us immediately. Do not visit the centre!

We will make arrangements with you over the phone regarding your home-trial but please do not come to the centre and put others at risk. Although there is usually a 7 day time limit on adopting a reserved dog, we will work with you if you become ill or need to self-isolate and you will not lose the dog, or your reservation fee. The important thing is we keep everyone as safe as possible while still finding homes for our dogs.

If applicants do not follow these guidelines and endanger our staff and dog's welfare by attending the centre when unwell we will be forced to close adoptions down effective immediately and you will be responsible for stopping any dogs being rehomed. People who do not cooperate will be permanently removed from our waiting list and any funds paid will not be refunded.

Adoptions:

PLEASE NOTE - VIEWING RESCUE DOGS IS STRICTLY BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Appointments are booked after you have submitted an adoption application form and this has been approved by the adoptions team.

Please do not turn up at the centre without an appointment as you will be turned away.

We politely ask that you follow our adoptions process to avoid having a wasted journey and also disrupting our care of the dogs by turning up uninvited.

All new dogs into rescue are assessed and then offered to the people on our waiting list before being offered for general adoption. Your ideal dog will arrive at the centre and get adopted without you even knowing about it, unless you're on our adoptions waiting list.

Meet the dogs

Mia - Available

Age: 4 years
Sex: Female
Size: Large (20-40kg)

Mia has had a tough life and has been in UK since November 2018. She was housed at another rescue that weren't able to find her a forever home. Mia loves her people but she can get frightened of strangers coming up to her on walks. She is currently on a diet as she arrived quite hefty but she has a love of tennis balls and has been working on her fitness chasing them. Mia is a very loving dog and all she wants to do is please you. Sadly she has never had a stable home in her life. She does not like to share her humans with other animals and she needs an adult only home as she's a big, strong and bouncy girl.

Max - Available

Age: 3 years
Sex: Male
Size: Large (20-40kg)

Max came to the centre in 2018 after spending his young life at a public shelter in Calarasi, Romania. He had spent his entire first year of his life being mistreated, neglected and unloved. Luckily, Max has been homed in a foster home for the past couple of months and has been getting used to daily routines. He is a very smart dog and has a lot of potential. He needs a family that are willing to work with him. Max will be a project. He is familiar with the car, walks well on a harness and is muzzle trained too.

Logan - Available

Age:  1 year
Sex: Male
Size: Small (4-10kg)

Logan came to us in October and was quite frightened to begin with. Now he is a huge personality in the kennels! Logan is high energy, bouncy and a bundle of fun. He is a toy fiend and we will regularly find all of the toy box in his kennel if we don't keep an eye on him! Due to his past Logan is not keen on people taking things from him - once he feels safe around you he will invite you to play and is an extremely loving boy.

Ralphie - Available

Age: 3 years
Sex: Male
Size: Medium (10-20kg)

Beautiful Ralphie is back with us as his last home did not work out. He is a very sweet boy that can be wary of new people and loud noises. Ralphie has a burn on his nose which he got in Romania - it is likely he has been a village dog as it is common practice for them to scar the noses of dogs to 'prevent' distempter - which is folklore. They also scar the noses to make the dogs appear 'tough' and ward off threat. Ralphie is a very loving boy and enjoys playing with toys and going on long walks. Ralphie needs very patient humans to take him on.

Sally - Available

Age: 7 years
Sex: Female
Size: Large (20-40kg)

Sally was the shelters longest staying dog. She was in the shelter for potentially years. She was too frightened of people and would hide away. Upon arrival she started to trust and is becoming a loving girl. With a bit of patience she will be a very loyal dog. She is just beginning to go out for walks, her lead work is a bit erratic at the moment and she's nervous of loud noises and lots of people. Sally will need someone that is around a lot as she is frightened to be left alone. She is not keen on other dogs and prefers human company.

Smokey - Available

Age: 3 years
Sex: Male
Size: Medium-Large (10-20kg)

Smokey is a shy boy that was very ill in the Romanian shelter and would have surely died from his ailments if he had not been brought to the UK. Smokey has been settling in at a foster home and after a few weeks has started to show his cheeky side. He is still a very scared dog and will need a very patient household that will not push him.
