Patch's Story:
Patch is just such a happy and loving ball of energy. He has had a poor life and he seems to be making up for every second it whilst being in our care.
Patch arrived into our care back in June 2025. To say he was in bad condition would be an understatement.
His teeth were rotten - he has since had a dental and is left with just 6 teeth
He had bad skin and a large wound in his neck, he was started on flea treatment, steriods and antibiotics. This has all now cleared up and he's looking great!
Patch weighed in at a whopping 30.0kg when he arrived! This is more than double what his ideal weight should have been. He struggled to stand up and when he did, he could barely walk 1-2 steps. These days, Patch weighs 14.7kg and has so much energy, he never stops moving. We do still monitor his exercise so he doesn't over do it giving him small walks 2 x daily and a swim once a week with the lovely Amy at East Yorkshire Hydro in Beverley. This is helping him with gentle exercise whilst buildnjg up his muscle mass and the heat helps with his joints, he absolutely loves it!
Bio:

With other dogs:
Patch is great with other dogs but some, he can get a bit obsessive with and will follow them around trying to hump them.. it doesn't matter if they are male or female and he can be quite persistant even when the dogs tell him no so he does have to be removed. In gereral though, when he's being more polite, he is brilliant with other dogs.
With cats:
Patch is not yet cat tested but this can be done on request, please email adoptions@oakwooddogrescue.co.uk and we can arrange cat testing for him if required.
Active energy
Patch has got so much energy since his massive weight loss but we do try to make him take it easy, 2 x small walks a day would be fine for Patch
As little as possible to start with
Patch does show signs of destress when left alone at the kennels so we're not sure how he'd be in a home. We didn't get much info from the previous owner regarding this. We'd advise him being left for small amounts of time to begin with until he's settled in and this can be gauged much better
Lead trained
Patch walks well on a collar and lead, he shows no reactivity issues and loves his walks
Training required
Patch has basic training
