Alex's Story:
Alex was pulled straight from a kill shelter in Romania back in November 2023.
We'll never forget the day that she arrived. She pinned herself into a corner, avoiding eye contact with anyone [human or dog], and looking like she just wanted the ground to swallow her up.
Fast forward several months, showing Alex nothing but kindness and giving her as much time as she needed, she asked us for her very first stroke. It was the gentlest little paw lift and from that day forward, she never looked back, she was asking for tummy tickles from anyone that would give her them <3
Alex was lucky enough to get adopted 11 months after her arrival but last month [March 2026] she was returned to the rescue after 17 months in the home, due to a relationship split.
The good part for Alex is that she still had a couple of friends at the rescue that she knew from before and they have helped her settle back in. We think she currently thinks that she's come for a holiday and is enjoying her time playing with her old pals and being spoilt rotten by staff and volunteers.

With other dogs:
Alex is great with other dogs but if they are pestering her when she is trying to sleep / have quiet time or just wants her own space then she will tell them off by teeth baring or snapping, if she's really pushed to it. If she's to live with another dog, they will need to read body language well and respect her space. She is a very gentle and laid back dog but she does enjoy her time away from other dogs sometimes too.
Alex has mixed with lot of dogs since being back at the rescue, she is doing so well with all of them but sadly, Alex lost her sight in her right eye and so it has made her slightly more cautious with making new friends and feeling comfortable around them. She may have some trust issues with new dogs until she knows that they are not going to cause her any harm.
With cats:
Alex is not yet cat tested but we are hoping to test her as soon as possible.
Active energy
Alex is a quiet soul although she does enjoy her walks.
We'd say once settled, she'll have moderate energy levels.
2-4 hours, slowly built up
Alex is ok to be left for short periods in the home but has been said to bark and cry if she is left for too long.
Lead trained
Alex is harness trained, loves her walks and walks well but she can get very scared around traffic and in busy areas
Training required
Alex doesn't have a massive range of basic training, she will sit, give paw and do the 'down' command. Alex is mostly house trained.
She was having no accidents in the home at all until bonfire night and since then, she has had a few accidents on the rug.
