Introducing Honey!

This poor girl found herself in a public shelter in Romania and to say she was terrified, would be an understatement.

The shelter is massively over capacity due to the amount of dogs that are dropped off there and Poor Honey was getting so badly bullied by the other dogs, it was just awful.

One day, she was so scared that she tried to chew her way through the metal bars in an absolute frantic panic, when the workers got to her, there was blood absolutely everywhere.

Honey was pulled to safety and after seeing the photos, we agreed to take her in at Oakwood and so she was prepped for her journey. Another 30 days and the nightmare in Romania would finally be over for her.

Since arriving at Oakwood, Honey was very shut down for the first weeks or so. She was too scared to leave her kennel or be anywhere near the staff, at times she'd wee herself in her bed if she thought we were approaching.

We've been giving Honey as much time and space as she needs, and over the past few days she has started venturing out of her kennel with the help of her dog pals. She is slowly starting to get a little fussy to see us and getting close enough for sniffs.

Honey still has a very long journey ahead of her but she's already made massive progress in just a couple of weeks, her future is certainly looking up for her and she's so sweet natured, she deserves nothing but kindness for the rest of her days.

With other dogs:

Honey loves being around gentle natured dogs. Any dogs that are too boisterous and in her face worry her, but ones that will be able to read her body language and give her the space she needs, but to also encourage her to come out of her shell would be everything to her. She must be adopted to a home that already has at least one dog living there.

With cats:

Honey is still too shut down to be able to cat test her. She's very gentle natured and so will will definitely be one on our list to test as soon as she is ready.

Active energy

Honey is currently still very subdued and scared of everything around her, it's likely we won't get a true read on her energy levels during her stay in the kennels

4-5 hours with another dog

Honey has never lived in a home before - as far as we are aware.

As Honey will need to live in a home with another dog, she should be fine to be left for 4-5 hours as she will have their company and it will be who she feels most safe with

Lead trained

Honey is far too scared to attempt lead training at this time

Training required

Honey doesn't have any form of basic training, she will need to learn to settle in her environment and trust her new family before training can commence
