Introducing Maeve!

We don't know much about Maeve's background other than she found herself in a public shelter in Romania.

These shelters are extremely overcrowded due to the immense number of street dogs / owners dumping them at the shelter gates on a daily basis.

Smaller dogs like Maeve usually really struggle in these places. It's always survival of the fittest and the smaller more timid dogs like Maeve always arrive to us very underweight.

Since being at Oakwood, Maeve has shown us that she LOVES people. She can submissive at times due to her past but so long as you let her initiate the contact and learn to trust you [it doesn't take long], she'll be all over you for kisses and fusses.

With other dogs:

Maeve seems to absolutely thrive around other dogs, although she has shown some guarding behaviours towards them such as guarding of her people. She doesn't always do this, it's almost like she's loving her human attention so much that she doesn't want to share it with the other dogs as she's not used to being the centre of attention, she'd have been overlook for many months in the shelter going days / weeks / months without any kind human interaction and so she's just trying to make the most of it. This may settle down over time however, if she was going into a home with another dog, it may be an issue that would need to be worked on.

With cats:

Maeve has not yet been cat tested.

Active energy

Maeve has high levels of energy. She currently loves nothing more than bombing it around and around our fields letting off some steam, she absolutely loves running and playing

0-2 hours - need to be built up

Maeve has never lived in a home before - as far as we are aware.

Any time alone will need to be slowly built up over time.

Lead trained

We've not yet started lead training with Maeve but she is food motivated and people friendly and so we don't think we'll have many issues with this other than her nervousness to new things
